Duct Cleaning Basics

James Heating and Air Conditioning offers a professional duct cleaning service that cleans your entire ventilation system including the supply, intake, return ducts, blower, evaporator coil and other accessible components, utilizing a specialized vacuum truck. This process puts the entire ventilation system under continuous negative pressure that allows very fine particles to be removed from the system, ensuring these particles and contaminates are not released in to the living space.

When your HVAC system is cleaned, it doesn’t have to work as hard to maintain the temperatures you desire. As a result, less energy is used, leading to improved cost effectiveness. We also recommend having regular maintenance of your heating and cooling system, and regular filter changes or cleanings.

  • Renovation: If your home has been remodeled, dangerous dust and debris may have become lodged inside the duct work. Dust can circulate for years.
  • Mold: If there is visible mold growth inside the duct work. If your ducts are wet, damp or flood-damaged, this can cause mold and mildew to grow.
  • Contaminants: If noticeable debris, pet hair, odors or other contaminates are being released into the room through the ducts.
  • Illness: If someone in your household is suffering from an allergy-related illness, you may want to consider having your ducts cleaned to see if the HVAC system is the reason. Children are more likely than adults to be affected and may result in allergies or asthma.
  • Dust: If there is excessive dust in your home or a dirty/dusty supply vent cover.
  • Pets: If you have pets that shed a high amount of hair and dander or if there was noticeable evidence of animal infestation or nesting in your duct work, like rodent droppings.
  • Energy Saving: 20 to 40 percent of the energy used for heating or cooling is wasted. Contaminants in the system cause it to work harder and shorten the life of your system.

Duct Cleaning Facts:

The average six-room house collects about 40 pounds of dust, dirt and allergens in the air ducts every year. This contaminated air that many people have allergic reactions to is said to be 70% more polluted than outdoor air. The dust, dirt and allergens in the air get pulled back into your system and re-circulated throughout your house every time the heating and cooling system kicks on. This causes a buildup of dirt and debris in your ducts, preventing the air from flowing freely, and builds up on the heating or cooling coils, which results in a decrease in efficiency of your system and variance in temperatures. That means it works harder, costs more to operate and shortens the life expectancy of your system.
