The average six-room house collects about 40 pounds of dust, dirt and allergens in the air ducts every year. This contaminated air that many people have allergic reactions to is said to be 70% more polluted than outdoor air. The dust, dirt and allergens in the air get pulled back into your system and re-circulated throughout your house every time the heating and cooling system kicks on. This causes a buildup of dirt and debris in your ducts, preventing the air from flowing freely, and builds up on the heating or cooling coils, which results in a decrease in efficiency of your system and variance in temperatures. That means it works harder, costs more to operate and shortens the life expectancy of your system.
